Dr. Soldin earned his honors degree in Chemistry at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa where he subsequently received his Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry, and also his PhD in Biochemistry. He enrolled and obtained his boards in Clinical Chemistry at the University of Toronto and then accepted a tenured professor position at the University of Toronto in Clinical Biochemistry and Pharmacology. During his work in Toronto, Dr. Soldin developed new procedures, based on the pressure-harnessing technology known as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), to effectively and sensitively tease out, one by one, disease markers and drugs. Over the years, first in Toronto and later at Children's National Medical Center and George Washington School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., he used this approach to advise physicians on the treatment of patients with a host of diseases—epilepsy, AIDS, heart disease, and cancers such as neuroblastoma or pheochromocytoma.

She holds the position of Full Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry of Pisa University, and in 2013-2017 was the Director of the CNR Institute for Conservation and Valorization of Cultural Heritage. She teaches Analytical Chemistry and Cultural Heritage Chemistry; she is the Director of the Summer School of Heritage Science at Pisa University. Her main research aims to optimize analytical procedures based on chromatography/mass spectrometry to identify organic compounds and their deterioration products in complex matrices from Cultural Heritage. Her research has resulted in over 300 publications in refereed journals and books.

During the last forty years, Prof. Ravi Bhushan guided 32 doctoral and 53 Masters’ theses, published more than 265 research papers and chapters in books and encyclopedia; edited four Special Issues of Biomedical Chromatography on Chiral Resolutions as Guest Editor; worked at University of Oldenburg and Giessen in Germany on Alexander von Humboldt fellowship, at University of Bristol on European Economic Community Fellowship. He is an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, London, and Fellow National Academy of Sciences India. He received the ‘Outstanding Teacher Award’ of the year 2007 of IIT Roorkee, and Khosla Research Prize and Silver Medal of Univ of Roorkee. He has expertise in enantiomeric resolution of compounds of pharmaceutical importance using LC.
